THE SPOON COUNCIL - Honest!
The spoon council are an entirely fictitious, but plausible, governing body dedicated
to the promotion of the humble spoon.
In reality they were a figment of my imagination as part of a new business drive for a previous agency. After all everyone has spoons but hardly anyone can remember buying any. They just appear. So if we could sell spoons, we could sell anything.
We created ads, TV commercials, a website, exhibitions and even got Uri Gellar to send himself up, egged on by the excellent Graham Vanas, in a spoof documentary that’s still gathering views on YouTube. The campaign won a couple of gold awards and was a lot of fun to write and create. What’s more Uri Gellar was an interesting man, a fantastic sport, even inviting us to film at his home and he sent himself up beautifully.
Then came the DM
We sent a quality spoon out as a piece of DM to generate leads and positive enquiries. Which caused quite a stir.
The agency no longer exists though, you know how things go, but the spoons are still coming in useful.
